Creating Realistic Gold Material in 3ds Max

In this tutorial you will learn how to make realistic Gold Material in 3ds max using simple technique with 4 easy steps.

Step 1:
Go to material editor or press M on keyboard to open material editor. Select any material slot and name it Gold.

Step 2:
In the shader basic parameters rollout of gold Material select Multi-Layer. In Multi-Layer Basic Parameters make diffuse color to intense dark brown color.
Put these values in diffuse color Red 26, Green 18, Blue 4.
set value =30 in Diffuse level just under the diffuse color box.

Step 3:
In First Specular level Set values as Red =245, Green=179, Blue=30
First Specular Level = 120
First Specular Glossiness = 25

In Second Specular level Set values as Red =255, Green=255, Blue=255
Second Specular Level = 175
Second Specular Glossiness = 90


Step 4:
Go to maps selection in Gold material and select Reflection. click on none it open the material map browser and select falloff as a Reflection.

 In falloff there are two slots top or block slot and bottom slot or white slot.
In top slot click on none and select raytrace and give value =30.
In Bottom slot click on none select raytrace and give value 90.
Select Falloff Type = Fresnel for both.


Finally Apply this Gold Material to your objects in your 3d max project and experiment three 3 point lighting technique use Mental Ray as a Rrenderer.
